Dear Friends and Family,
We hope that this letter finds you doing well. September is probably our busiest month of the year. This year is even busier than normal. Every week, we have around 8-12 people that go out sharing the gospel in the community. Our discipleship groups meet regularly to continue teaching and training newer believers. Apart from all of the other normal activities of the church, we had a special church cleaning and maintenance day. We fixed some lights, painted walls, and cleaned out many other things. Last month, we held our first “English Fellowship” and had great attendance. Our second one was a little lower, but still with a good group. We also received approval to do our baptisms in the meeting location. We purchased an inflatable spa to use for baptisms. It is convenient that we can deflate it and box it up after we are done. This helps us to better utilize our limited space. Lord willing, we plan to baptize at least three people this month. Recently we have been averaging around 50 people on Sundays and around 30 on Tuesdays. Near the end of the month, our sending church pastor, 2 deacons, and their wives will visit us. We are planning to charter the church as well as ordain our first deacon. This will be an important step forward for the church. The only problem is that we will need to buy more chairs!
Last month was very busy because we were working to make a new bedroom for Elijah. Not only is this helpful for the children, but it also allows the girls to share a room when we host family who visit us from the states. Elijah enjoyed helping out with many parts of the construction. As of early September, his room is now complete. We are now preparing to receive Michelle’s parents when they visit us in the near future. Besides all of that, we stay very busy with birthdays and holidays during this time of the year. We celebrated Elijah’s 9th birthday in late August. In just a couple of days Lila will turn 15. We also have lots of activities related to children’s day and Costa Rican independence day. Because of her academic excellence, Lila was chosen to carry the Costa Rican flag for the independence day march.
